Before scheduling a procedure, please review these BMI eligibility guidelines. They are designed to protect your health and help ensure safer surgery and more predictable results.
Body Mass Index (BMI) is a general measure based on height and weight
used to estimate body fat in adults.
You can calculate your BMI using a trusted BMI calculator here.
Ideal BMI Range for Cosmetic Surgery
The best candidates for most cosmetic procedures typically have a BMI of 29.9 or below.
For optimal surgical results, a BMI of 25 or lower is strongly recommended whenever possible.
Patients with a BMI above 25 may still be candidates, but may require staged procedures
or additional treatment planning to achieve the best outcome.

If your BMI is above 25, more than one surgical round may be needed to safely reach your desired results.
BMI ABOVE 30 - IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS
You may still be considered for surgery.
Eligibility depends on:
• Type of procedure requested
• Overall medical condition
• Psychological readiness
• Safety assessment for your specific case
Final approval is determined after a complete medical evaluation, including lab work and preoperative consultations with Dr. Amaya, Internal Medicine, and Anesthesiology.
Up to 3 procedures may be performed in the same surgical session when medically appropriate.
Plan to remain nearby for at least 7 days after surgery for proper postoperative monitoring.
Keep in mind that if your BMI is above 25, you will most likely require more than one round of surgery to reach optimal results.

Up to 2–3 procedures may be safely combined per surgical session depending on complexity.
Plan to remain nearby for at least 7–10 days after surgery for proper postoperative monitoring.
Keep in mind that if your BMI is above 25, you will most likely require more than one round of surgery to reach optimal results.

Surgical eligibility becomes more limited and case-specific at this BMI range.
Only carefully selected procedures may be considered after full medical clearance.
Final approval is determined after a complete medical evaluation, including lab work and preoperative consultations with Dr. Amaya, Internal Medicine, and Anesthesiology.
Up to 2 procedures may be combined when safety criteria are met.
Plan to remain nearby for at least 10–15 days after surgery for proper postoperative monitoring.
Keep in mind that if your BMI is above 25, you will most likely require more than one round of surgery to reach optimal results.
At this BMI level, cosmetic surgery is usually not recommended
until weight reduction has been achieved.
Only exceptional cases may be evaluated individually. The final decision will be made after a complete evaluation, including your lab work results, and a preoperative consultation with Dr. Amaya, the internal medicine specialist, and the anesthesiologist.
Please note that no more than 1 procedure can be performed at the same time.
In addition, you must plan to stay nearby for at least 15 days after surgery to ensure proper postoperative monitoring and care.
It’s very important to understand that for better and longer-lasting results, it is strongly recommended to consider medical weight loss or bariatric surgery before undergoing cosmetic procedures.
